Untangling genomic instability in lung cancer - the role of protein YB-1

Selena Wang is in the final year of her doctoral research studies at the University of Otago. Her research is focused on how some proteins contribute to chromosomal instability, a chaotic state where constant reshuffling of the genetic building blocks in cancer cells allows them to adapt, spread around the body, and become resistant to treatment.

Thanks to our amazing donors, Cancer Research Trust supported Selena to present her research at a major international conference, where she could talk to leading experts in the field. She came home armed with the latest insights to refine her own research and built connections with experts that will enhance her current work and help her develop her cancer research career.

"Not every PhD student has the opportunity to present their research at an international conference so closely aligned with their research focus, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have received this support to attend. I’m deeply grateful to the Cancer Research Trust for making this possible, this experience marks an important early milestone in my research journey.”

We wish Selena all the very best for the remainder of her doctoral studies.
