Catherine Wood - Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Nurse Specialist

Keeping Kiwis at the forefront of blood cancer care

Nurse specialist Catherine Wood is based at Wellington Hospital where she specializes in bone marrow transplant and co-ordinating stem cell transplants. Her role sees her working closely with health professionals around the region to coordinate patient and donor care before and after transplant. She also educates other nurses and assesses patients after their stem cell transplant - prescribing supportive care medications when needed.

The Cancer Research Trust is proud to help highly skilled professionals like Catherine stay at the forefront of developments in cancer care. With support from our donors, Catherine was able to attend the leading bone marrow transplant meeting – Tandem BMT – for the latest training and insights. Back in Aotearoa New Zealand she’s now sharing knowledge on post-transplant complications and the use of medical marijuana through her nurse training sessions.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to attend this stimulating and thought provoking meeting” says Catherine.

Thanks to your support, the Cancer Research Trust can fund the people and opportunities that will have the biggest benefit to cancer care and cancer research in Aotearoa New Zealand.
